What the statute requires, section by section

Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA), signed into law 12 June 2023. Provisions addressed:

s. 24: Principles of personal data processing, including integrity and confidentiality (security) and the duty of care / accountability.
s. 32: Designation of a Data Protection Officer.
s. 39: Security; appropriate technical and organisational measures (incl. pseudonymisation, encryption, periodic risk assessments).
s. 40: Personal-data-breach notification: the processor notifies the controller; the controller notifies the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) within 72 hours and affected data subjects. Note: there is no discrete "records of processing activities" section in the principal Act; ROPA derives from s. 24 accountability and the NDPC GAID (2025).
