What the statute requires, section by section

Personal Information Protection Law of the People's Republic of China (PIPL), adopted 20 August 2021, effective 1 November 2021. Provisions addressed:

Art. 54: Processors shall regularly conduct compliance audits of their personal-information processing activities.
Art. 55 / 56: Personal Information Protection Impact Assessment (PIPIA) and a record of the processing for high-impact activities (sensitive PI, automated decision-making, sharing, cross-border transfer); the PIPIA report and processing record are retained for at least 3 years.
Art. 57: On a breach/tampering/loss, the processor takes remedial measures and notifies the authorities and affected individuals (categories, causes, possible harm, remedial/mitigation measures, contact).
Art. 24: Automated decision-making: transparency and fairness; right to explanation and to refuse solely-automated decisions. Note: the Chinese original is authoritative; the official NPC English text is a reference translation.
