The AI agent underwriting question set.

Twenty questions to ask about an insured’s AI agents, in five parts: inventory, authority, the stop, the record and the claim. Free to use, to adapt and to download.

1. Inventory

  1. Which AI agents can take actions with financial, data, operational or physical effect?
  2. Which systems can each agent act on, and with which credentials?
  3. Which agents act for the insured with other companies’ systems or agents?
  4. How is a new agent, or a new capability for an existing one, approved before it goes live?

2. Authority

  1. For each agent, who is the named person whose authority it acts under?
  2. Is that authority checked at the moment each action takes effect, or granted once in advance?
  3. “Does a human need to verify accuracy before AI takes action?”A sample carrier application question, Aon AI Fact Sheet 2026, p. 6.
  4. When a person’s authority is withdrawn, what happens to actions already in flight?

3. The stop

  1. Can a named person stop an agent, and how quickly does the stop take effect?
  2. Once stopped, does the agent stay stopped until a named person re-arms it?
  3. If the authority check cannot complete, does the action fail closed?
  4. Is the stop itself recorded: who pressed it, under what authority, and what ran afterwards?

4. The record

  1. “Are AI actions logged so potential errors can be reviewed and remediated?”A sample carrier application question, Aon AI Fact Sheet 2026, p. 6.
  2. Does the record show the actions that were stopped or held, as well as those that ran?
  3. Is each record made at the moment of the action, and can a later change be detected?
  4. Can an outside party, such as the carrier, an auditor or a court, verify the record without trusting the insured’s own systems?

5. The claim

  1. When did the AI drift: when was the first action outside the authority given?
  2. Who stopped it, and when?
  3. Did they hold the authority to stop it?
  4. What ran afterwards?

A question set for discussion, free to adapt. It is not legal advice and states no underwriting standard. Regulayer™ supplies the evidence; the insurer makes the determination.
