His revised civil standing order (May 2023) required any party using a generative AI tool for legal research or drafting to disclose in the filing that AI was used, the specific tool, and the manner of use.

“Any party using any generative AI tool to conduct legal research or to draft documents for filing with the Court must disclose in the filing that AI was used, with the disclosure including the specific AI tool and the manner in which it was used.”
How it was withdrawn
Not in one step. In April 2024 the requirement moved into an appendix that the order itself states is not part of the standing order, and the wording softened from a requirement to “the Court kindly requests”. In December 2024 the ask was dropped altogether in favour of the Illinois Supreme Court AI policy, which states that disclosure of AI use should not be required in a pleading. The current standing order, dated 3 March 2026, refers counsel to that policy and to Rule 11 and requires no disclosure.
