What the statute requires, section by section

Data Security Law of the People's Republic of China (DSL), adopted 10 June 2021, in force 1 September 2021 (DISTINCT from PIPL). Provisions addressed:

Art. 27: Establish a whole-process data security management system and conduct data-security education/training; processors of important data designate a person responsible for data security.
Art. 29: Apply risk monitoring; take immediate remedial measures on discovering risks; on a data-security incident take immediate measures, notify users, and report to competent departments in a timely manner.
Art. 30: Processors of important data periodically conduct risk assessments and submit risk-assessment reports to competent departments.
Art. 21: Categorized and classified (graded) data protection; important data.
Art. 33: Data-transaction intermediaries retain verification and transaction records. Note: the Chinese original is authoritative; the NPC English text is a reference translation.
